About Me

Shizuka is a theatre artist based in Vancouver known for her set design and puppetry. She also has experience in mask making, directing, props, painting, illustrations, costume design, and some stage/film acting. She has worked with many theatre companies including Arts Club Theatre Company, Neworld Theatre, Théâtre la Seizième, Carousel Theatre for Young People, Electric Company, Rumble Theatre, Axis Theatre, Boca del Lupo, Theatre Newfoundland Labrador, Solo Collective and others.


Shiz is a two-time Jessie Richardson Award winner and four-time nominee, as well as an Ovation award nominee. She has extensive theatre training in Japan at Nihon University and at Studio 58 where she received the Earl Klein Memorial Scholarship during her graduating term.

Fun Facts

  • Shiz recently discovered her Kai family emblem which is two wings crossing each other inside a circle. It means she comes from a bloodline of samurai warriors.
  • Shiz’s father works as a wildlife cinematographer and is currently trying to capture footage of the supposedly extinct wolves, Nihon Ookami, in a forest in Japan.
  • Shiz is currently trying to learn the bodhrán, she is an aquarium hobbyist, has a Boston Terrier named Jackson, wants to star in a Newsies musical as a newsboy, and is only 4′ 11″ tall.
